about the project
Taking place in and around Mount Pleasant Community Centre throughout 2019, Meeting Places is a collaborative community art project centering on the potential for creativity to strengthen and activate community. In a city where neighbours often don’t know each other and where it can be challenging to make new connections outside of our own social circles, this project investigates how we can use art to bridge gaps and make the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood a more lively and welcoming place to live. Through pop-up activities, artist walks, guerilla art installations, and community collaborations, participants will be invited to share artwork, share skills, share stories, and share experiences with one another, sparking curiosity, generosity, and empathy between people who might not otherwise meet.

about the artists
Popcorn Galaxies is a growing collaboration between June Fukumura and Keely O'Brien. We are an experimental Vancouver-based theatre company interested in re-enchanting the everyday world through interdisciplinary art. Using unconventional structures, site-specificity, and a DIY aesthetic, we attempt to illuminate the mundane by juxtaposing it with the unexpected and to test the thresholds between imagination and reality, life and theatre.
